In 1947, Philadelphia businessman Howard E. Kester revolutionized the paint industry and founded Krylon, Inc., one of the most well-known brands in the aerosol paints industry. Shortly after Kester brought his idea to market, DuPont introduced nylon. Impressed once again by the company’s ingenuity, Kester substituted the first “n” in nylon with the first and last letters of his own last name, and the “Krylon” moniker was born.

Sales grew quickly from 1950 on as consumers embraced spray paints and endless creative possibilities.
