2008 Trend Themes

We have narrowed the many trends to the five that we feel best describe what is happening in design and color. Fashion is directly inspired by fashion trends. Nature which not only focuses on the sustainability trend but really draws our attention to the beauty of nature and all of the inspiration that it provides for color palettes. Travel is about the textures, colors and primitive graphics that we draw from other cultures such as the British Colonial Islands and Africa. Art is our take on the prominence of blues in the palette and how well they work with the Scandinavian designs that we are seeing. Culinary is all about food and it's ability to inspire and intrigue.

Fashion

Art Nouveau never looked newer than now—its organic romanticism has been coupled with chic geometrics and fresh, young color for an intriguing eclecticism. Perhaps reminiscent of the Summer of Love, in pattern and feeling, but so much more au courant with a stylish, 21st century sensibility that uses jolts of color and ornamentation to create a new sophistication that draws you to it.

Travel

Staying put on one continent is not enough for you. You need the sensory jolt of other cultures, from the spice market in the souk with its saffrons and cinnamons to tribal patterns that look right at home in urban spaces. If you could, you would bring the breezes and exotic scents of the African coast and islands home with you, much as the British did when they embraced Africa and the Far East in the 40s.

Art

Blue captivates you. Cool, bright, deep, rich... whether from nature—shimmering peacock shades and ocean-going marines—to the crisp blue of Scandinavian light with its icy coolness, blue just seems to be the perfect background for our contemporary zeitgeist.

Nature

Natural, soothing Zen-like calm in the garden is your forte. For you, nature is a sanctuary you retreat to with pleasure. "Thinking green" works for you on so many levels. Of course there's the anticipation of being surrounded by green foliage—deep blue-greens, dark pine, the surprise of chartreuse - but there's also your love of the naturally sustainable, like bamboo and cork, that makes your home such a haven.

Culinary

You've always embraced the slow-food movement. You crave the joy you get from being at table with family and friends, laughing, eating, and talking. Enjoying every last moment of each other's company, almost as much as you savor every bite of the creme brulee.
