Step Into Spring
By Susie Coelho
A doorway is a transition between dimensions. Closed, an external door is a barrier against the outside world; open, it invites the outside in. Styled with harmony in mind, the doorway can unite these two spaces by expressing the energy of both. All you have to do is let the season be your guide.
Spring, summer, winter and fall are all great excuses to add personality to your doorway, and each season provides its own palette of colors, textures, and natural materials with which to work. This spring, spruce up the front entry, a side or back door, a patio entry off the bedroom, or the entrance to a guest cottage. Spring is the season of renewal and even in California I can’t wait to get outside to greet the return of warm breezes and longer days. Celebrate the spirit of sunshine and growth by styling your entries with a playful eye. Think about fun colors.
This year I am especially interested in using items that I already have and finding fun ways to reinvent them and give them a fresh new look—and on a budget. Look around for those items that you might think to throw out and get creative and just try revamping them. You will be surprised at what you can do with a little imagination!
It’s time to open the door and let the sunshine in.
