Creative Mailbox Planters
Mark and Teresa White have learned to “think outside the mailbox”. Turning their passion for gardening and color into a creative venture, the husband/wife team designed a new kind of mailbox and recently started their business, Creative Mailbox Planters.
As fans of Krylon’s Fusion for Plastic®, many of Mark and Teresa's mailbox themes (found on creativemailboxplanters.com) feature a variety of Fusion for Plastic® colors paired with matching floral arrangements. The Missouri residents hope that their creative mailbox planters will bring change to America’s mailboxes, as well as providing homeowners with a chance to get creative using color, design, and their green thumb.
The Classic Americana mailbox planter model, shown above, is painted in Fusion for Plastic® Buttercream and includes mini-petunias and trailing verbena in its floral arrangement.
How did you come up with the idea to make creative mailbox planters?
The mailbox is one of the first things that people see when they pull into a driveway and homeowners take pride in the first impressions of their home. We decided that the mailbox placed in front of most homes needed to be re-addressed in a chic, smart and stylish way. Using our experience as garden center managers, we saw the success of container gardening as it allows the homeowner to take color anywhere.
What types of mailbox designs do you offer?
Currently, our line of Creative Mailbox Planters includes our first model, the Classic Americana, shown in the photo above. We will be developing other models such as a Southern Charm model with wrought iron accents and a Southwest Adobe model.
What is different about your mailbox design from other mailboxes?
There are many choices to choose from on the mailbox market, however many are too large and costly for the average homeowner. With the current economy, we wanted to offer another option that would allow the homeowner to add color and flair to a once-drab mailbox. Our Classic Americana mailbox planter is designed with a patent pending to simply slip over most existing standard mailboxes with an attachment. We proudly make our mailboxes in the U.S.A. and use eco-friendly polyethylene with double-walled construction for durability, UV stabilizers, and proper drainage holes for healthy growing conditions.
Why did you decide to use Krylon’s Fusion for Plastic® to paint your mailbox planters?
We have found that Krylon’s Fusion for Plastic® is very easy to use and we like the short drying period. We appreciate the fact that the container is recyclable.
What do you like most about using Krylon spray paint? Do you have a favorite color?
There is a Krylon product for every creative project you can imagine. We have used Krylon paints in many applications from renewing plastic flowerpots to changing the colors of ornaments. Our favorite Fusion for Plastic® colors are Buttercream and Blue Hyacinth.
Your website shows many mailbox colors and themes. Which theme is most popular?
During a Kansas City home show we recently participated in, one of the most popular display mailbox planters was the “Proud American” Christmas theme with red poinsettias, red and white striped ornaments, blue ribbon with white stars and a yellow ribbon on the mailbox. Since the Classic Americana is sold in white only, it allows the consumer the option to paint it with the color of their choice. We know that every mailbox planter will be unique, and we want everyone to share their imagination and pride in their special way.
Who purchases your mailboxes? For which occasions?
Our creative mailbox planters are great for the flower and gardening enthusiast who wants to take curb appeal a step further. The Classic Americana is a great new gift idea and a new way to send flowers for a special occasion. It also makes a great present for the new homebuyer or for the newlyweds’ first home.
What plans does your company have for the future?
Our Classic Americana model is currently available via our website and we plan to make our products available in the near future via home improvement, hardware, garden centers and florists/hobby stores.
