Krylon® 2012 Color Trends

Make 2012 Unforgettable By Adding Stylish, New Trend Colors To Any Home Project

CLEVELAND — Each new year brings new resolutions: from cutting back on sweets…to getting organized, everyone has a goal in mind. But in 2012, why not make a resolution that you can surely keep, by transforming the tired-looking elements in your home – like that outdated cabinet or rusty patio furniture? You don’t have to buy something new to incorporate the latest styles and color trends into your home. All you need is a little spray paint and inspiration from the color and design experts at Krylon®.

“As we ring in a new year, it’s the best time to capitalize on that increased motivation – whether it’s by completing projects in our homes, becoming more active, or taking up a new hobby,” says Donna Schroeder, color marketing and design manager at Krylon. “It’s a fresh start, and the best time to uncover yourself expression – and one of the best ways to do that is incorporating color into different aspects of your life.”

According to Schroeder, the drivers for the new 2012 color trends are mystical, metropolitan, nostalgic, indigenous and evocative. Each is linked with a feeling, allowing true expression and emotion to come through. The five stylish color themes found in the 2012 trend palette are as follows:

Nostalgic

Satin Island Splash
Color Trend - Nostalgic

Remembering important events and people creates comfort in our lives. Thinking of our friends and family as we look at a wall or piece of furniture keeps memories close at hand. With this in mind, the nostalgic trend is comprised of happy and easy colors that bring us back to simpler times and the magic of our youth.

Colors in the “Nostalgic” palette include warm hues: Banner Red, Mandarin or Pumpkin, Ocean or Island Splash, Brown Boots or Adobe, Dover White and Pistachio.

Metropolitan

Color Trend - Nostalgic

Like history, a fashion trend often repeats itself. Styles from years past are weaving a way back into today’s fashions, while the blocky shapes and neutral colors of techno products are making a comeback and creating a “geek-chic” appeal. However, to remain fresh and new, there’s an added blast with bold accent colors.

Colors in the “Metropolitan” palette include: Iris, Classic Gray, Terra Cotta, Almond, Smoke Gray and Seaweed.

Mystical

Satin Iris
Color Trend - Mystical

With busy schedules and hectic lives, sometimes we need the calming and tranquil effect produced by being outside and feeling one with nature. The ethereal hues created by the sun and sea craft a palette with deep and rich colors for the perfect escape…indoors or out. A shimmery quality within these colors helps to satisfy any drab or cluttered space.

Colors in the “Mystical” palette include: Meringue, Global Blue, Catalina Mist, Pewter Gray or Piston Gray, Fairytale Pink and Purple.

Evocative

Mambo Pink
Color Trend - Evocative

Self-expression is one of the greatest elements in terms of fashion and style. Looking to various art forms of music, theater and artwork for inspiration allow our creativity and individuality to shine. The vibrant, feminine hues of this palette make any project or room stand out -- just like you! Romantic fashions of the 1930’s and pop art colors of the 1970’s inspire us all.

Colors in the “Evocative” palette include: Mambo Pink, Meringue, Purple, Hunter Green, Bauhaus Gold and Peekaboo Blue or Sky Blue.

Indigenous

Citrus Green
Color Trend - Indigenous

As we all become more eco-friendly and aware of the green movement, the popularity of natural prints and textures also increases. An appreciation for the natural environment inspires this earthy palette of greens and browns. Even indoor designs can capture the sense of the great outdoors by adding a few key colors.

Colors in the “Indigenous” palette include: Khaki, Hunter Green, Citrus Green, Fern, Pebble and Burgundy.

Many of these colors are available in Krylon’s popular ColorMaster line of spray paints, with select colors also being included in other product lines like Dual™ Paint and Primer and Fusion Paint for Plastic™.
