Spray Paint Project Steps

Using the flathead screwdriver, pry back the backer board on the shelving unit. Pull it off, taking care to leave the tacks in place.
SHELVING UNIT:
- Using an all purpose cleaner/degreaser, wipe down the shelves to remove all dirt and grime. Rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry.
- Applying in a well-ventilated area, begin painting at the top of the shelving unit, holding the can of Satin Ivory 6-8 inches from the surface and paint using a sweeping side-to-side motion with slight overlap.
- Allow paint to dry for 30-60 seconds.
- Continue to apply light, multiple coats, waiting 30-60 seconds between each, until you are satisfied with the appearance.
BACKER BOARD:
- Either place the backer board flat on the ground or prop against an object so that it is upright. The points of the tacks should be facing you.
- Begin painting at the top of the backer board, holding the can of Gloss Sun Yellow 6-8 inches from the surface, and paint using a sweeping side-to-side motion with slight overlap.
- Allow paint to dry for 30-60 seconds.
- Continue to apply light, multiple coats, waiting 30-60 seconds between each, until you are satisfied with the appearance.
- Note: We painted the entire backer board a single color. You can create a design using painters tape or stencils to create more visual drama.
Krylon Dual Superbond dries in 25 minutes or less, and can be handled in about one hour.
Once fully dried, align the backer board with the shelves, gently pressing the tacks back into place. Use a hammer or rubber mallet to pound them in fully.
