-
In a well-ventilated space, cover a flat surface with a drop cloth or tarp.
-
Before starting, read the Krylon® and Minwax® labels for safety and application instructions.
-
Ensure that the wooden vanity and stool are bare or stripped, and that the wood is clean and dry.
-
In an area separate from where you will stain and spray paint your project, sand with #220-grit sandpaper in the direction of the wood grain. Use a clean rag to remove any sanding dust.
-
Begin by placing the stool on your covered surface. Cover the cushion or seat of the stool with newspaper and painter's tape to protect from overspray.
-
Spray paint the stool's legs using Krylon® COLORmaxx in Matte Black.
-
When the spray paint is dry to the touch, remove the painter's tape and newspaper.
-
Allow the stool to fully dry before handling.
-
Next, move on to the vanity. Place the vanity on the covered surface making sure to leave enough room between the stool to avoid overspray.
-
Cover the front, top, and sides of the drawer using painter's tape and newspaper to protect them from overspray. Remove the mirror from the vanity if you can, otherwise protect with painter's tape and newspaper. Only the supporting legs and upper shelves should remain uncovered
-
Spray the upper shelves and supporting legs using Krylon® COLORmaxx in Matte Black.
-
When the spray paint is dry to the touch, remove the painter's tape.
-
Use newspaper and painter's tape to cover the supporting legs and upper shelves that were just spray painted. Re-cover the entire drawer to protect from overspray. Use scissors to cut out a piece of newspaper to cover the mirror's glass. The mirror's edge should remain uncovered.
-
Using Krylon® Brilliant Metallic in Gold Leaf, spray the edge of the mirror.
-
When the spray paint is dry to the touch, remove the painter's tape and newspaper.
-
Next, prepare your workspace to apply Minwax® to the front, top, and sides of the vanity's drawer. Cover the surface of the vanity surrounding the drawer with painter's tape and newspaper.
-
Apply Minwax® Oil Based Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner to only the drawer using a brush or cloth for the best, most even color.
-
Allow the Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner to penetrate the drawer for 5 to 15 minutes, then remove any excess with a clean, dry cloth.
-
Be prepared to apply Minwax® Oil Based Wood Finish in Golden Pecan within two hours of the Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner application.
-
On a hidden portion of the drawer, test the Oil Based Wood Finish to ensure you are satisfied with the color.
-
Stir the Oil Based Wood Finish well before and occasionally during the staining, but do not shake or thin.
-
Apply the Oil Based Wood Finish in the direction of the grain and allow to penetrate for 5-15 minutes. The longer you wait, the darker/richer the color will be.
-
After the Oil Based Wood Finish has penetrated, wipe away the excess, working with the wood grain to blend lighter and darker areas together. When you are satisfied with the color, allow the Oil Based Wood Finish to dry completely for 24 hours before applying a protective topcoat to the drawer.
-
Finish the project with a clear protective topcoat over the drawer. To achieve this look, use Minwax® Polycrylic™ Protective Finish in Matte. Apply to the drawer with a high-quality synthetic brush in one direction with the grain. For best results use three coats, allowing each coat 2 hours to dry. To ensure an even finish, use 220 grit sandpaper to lightly sand the Polycrylic Protective Finish between coats.
-
After the final coat of Polycrylic Protective Finish is applied to the drawer, allow 3 hours before light handling and 24 hours before normal use.
-
Remove any remaining painter's tape and newspaper from the vanity.
