-
In a well-ventilated space, cover a flat surface with a drop cloth or tarp.
-
Before starting, read the Krylon® and Minwax® labels for safety, application, and dry time instructions.
-
In an area separate from where you will paint, remove any hardware from the dresser and use 220 grit sandpaper to sand the dresser and its drawers in the direction of the wood grain. Remove any sanding dust using a clean rag and ensure that the dresser's surfaces are smooth, dull, and dry before spray painting or staining.
-
Set the lower three drawers aside and place the dresser frame and top drawer onto the covered surface where you will complete the project. Be sure to leave enough space between them to avoid overspray during the spray-painting steps.
-
Use painter's tape to section off a triangle pattern on the both sides of the dresser. To achieve the pictured look, make the triangles widest at the base of the dresser, with the tips ending half-way up the side.
-
Paint the dresser using Krylon® Chalky Finish Brush-On in Classic White.
-
When the Chalky Finish Paint is dry to the touch, remove the painter's tape.
-
Use painter's tape and newspaper to cover the area you just painted around the unpainted triangle pattern. The triangle patterns should be uncovered.
-
Spray paint the face of the top dresser drawer and the triangles on the dresser frame using Krylon® COLORmaxx in Satin Italian Olive.
-
When the spray paint is dry to the touch, remove the painter's tape and newspaper.
-
Allow the paint to fully dry before removing the top drawer and dresser frame from the covered surface.
-
Place the lower 3 drawers on the covered surface.
-
Apply Minwax® Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner to the 3 drawers using a brush or cloth for the best and most even color.
-
Allow the Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner to penetrate the wood for 5 to 15 minutes, then remove any excess with a clean, dry cloth.
-
Be prepared to apply Minwax® Oil Based Wood Finish™ in Provincial within two hours of the Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner application.
-
Test the Oil Based Wood Finish on a small portion of one of the drawers to ensure you are satisfied with the color.
-
If you are satisfied with the color, stir the Oil Based Wood Finish well before applying. Apply the Oil Based Wood Finish to the 3 drawers in the direction of the grain and allow to penetrate the wood for 5-15 minutes. The longer you wait, the darker/richer the color will be.
-
After the Oil Based Wood Finish has penetrated, wipe away the excess, working with the wood grain to blend lighter and darker areas together. When you are satisfied with the color, allow the Oil Based Wood Finish to dry completely for 24 hours before applying a protective topcoat.
-
Stir the Minwax® Fast-Drying Polyurethane before applying and during use to eliminate settling in the bottom of the can.
-
Apply a thin coat of the Fast-Drying Polyurethane to the 3 drawers using a high-quality natural or foam brush.
-
Wait for the Fast-Drying Polyurethane to dry and use 220 grit sandpaper to sand each of the 3 drawers before applying a second coat.
-
After the final coat of Fast-Drying Polyurethane, allow 24 hours before light use.
-
When the drawers are fully dry, re-attach the dresser's hardware and put the drawers back in the dresser frame.
-
Place the beautifully re-finished dresser in any room for a space that is one-of-a-kind!
