In a well-ventilated space, cover a flat surface with a drop cloth or tarp.
-
Before starting the project, read the Krylon labels for safety, application, and dry time instructions.
-
In an area separate from where you will paint, use sandpaper to smooth any rough patches on the surface of the bookshelf. Use a clean rag to remove any sanding dust, ensuring that the surface is clean and dry before painting.
-
Place the bookshelf on the drop cloth and apply Krylon® Chalky Finish Brush-On in Anvil Gray using a high-quality synthetic paint brush. Allow the Chalky Finish paint to dry completely for 24 hours before moving to the next step.
-
When the Chalky Finish paint is completely dry, move the bookshelf to a separate area and use a fine-grit sandpaper to lightly distress the paint. To achieve the pictured look, focus on the corners and edges of the bookshelf to give the appearance of natural distress from everyday use. When you are finished sanding, use a clean rag to remove any sanding dust.
-
Using a high-quality synthetic paint brush, apply Krylon Chalky Finish Brush-On Dark Antiquing Wax over the sanded areas of the bookshelf. Let the wax stand for 1-2 minutes and wipe away any excess using a soft, lint-free cloth. You may re-apply as needed at anytime before sealing the project.
-
As an optional step, you may choose to seal your project using Krylon Chalky Finish Clear Brush-On Sealer. Apply the sealer all over the bookshelf using a high-quality synthetic paint brush. Let the sealer stand for 1-2 minutes and wipe away any excess using a soft, lint-free cloth.

Style the bookshelf with a few plants and a selection of your favorite books to create a display that will impress any guest!
